Nursing homes in Ontario are reporting a 7 per cent decrease in vacancies.
The news comes after a new survey by the Ontario Nursing Homes Association found the number of nursing homes that were in the red, with vacancies at about 50 per cent of capacity.
The Ontario Nursing Home Association also reported a 9 per cent drop in occupancy rates over the past year.
The number of vacancies in the province fell by more than 6,000 to 1,918,743 in the three months to March 31, according to the latest data from the Ontario Association of Nursing Homes.
The association said it expects the vacancy rate in the first half of 2020 to fall by about 5 per cent from about 10 per cent in the same period a year ago.
The vacancy rate for the second half of the year will be around 7 per per cent.
